Xinhua Net |2018, China FAW ranked ninth in the China’s 500 most valuable brands, with brand value of 271.627 billion yuan and has ranked top in the automobile industry for 15 consecutive years.
2019, the revenue of China FAW exceeded 620 billion yuan for the first time, and the actual profit increased by 44.05 billion yuan.
In 2020, with a brand value of 338.556 billion yuan, China FAW ranked first in the automobile industry among the list of China’s 500 Most Valuable Brands for a consecutive 17th year.
Up to now, China FAW has directly operated the Hongqi brand, along with its own brands, including FAW TRUCKS(Jiefang), BESTUNE and joint venture brand of Volkswagen, Toyota, etc., and it has become one of the most representative automobile enterprises in China, whose sales volume, revenue and profit continue to achieve fruitful results, increasing from 3.346 million units, 469.89 billion yuan and 42.05 billion yuan in 2017 to 3.51 million units, 705.7 billion yuan and 48.23 billion yuan in 2021 respectively.

Mastering the Core Technology to Win the “Discourse Power” of Chinese Automobile Brands
In a gesture to build a powerful and Chinese brand, China FAW actively focuses on industrial transformation, develops advanced technologies, and constantly strengthens core technology breakthrough and independent innovation of key technologies, guaranteeing that it has obtained a series of international advanced innovation achievements in five fields, new energy, intelligent network connection, driving experience, safety and health as well as basic research and development, to name but a few.
In the field of traditional fuel engines, China FAW has independently controlled the high efficiency and energy saving power platform of passenger vehicles with displacement of 1.0 to 6.0 liters and the thermal efficiency of the engine reaching more than 39%. In the field of hybrid power, it has made breakthroughs in six core technologies, including ultra-high compression ratio Miller cycle and low-pressure EGR (exhaust gas recirculation). In addition, in terms of new energy, China FAW has broken through the nine key technologies, for instance, high-power motors, high-energy density batteries and thermal runaway warning, and it is conducting research and development of technologies, such as solid-state batteries and hydrogen fuel engines.

In light of independent development, the brand value of “Hongqi” and “FAW TRUCKS” has always maintained the first place in Chinese autonomous cars and commercial vehicles. “Hongqi” L series has become the designated vehicle for major Chinese events, demonstrating the style of Chinese vehicles. The mid-size and heavy truck market share of “FAW TRUCKS” maintains top in the industry. The market positioning of “BESTUNE” is a medium and high-end brand in China’s mainstream automobile market. So far, new energy vehicles have already been mass-produced, with pure electric models such as Hongqi E-QM5, BESTUNE E01 and Hongqi E-HS9 already on the market.
The establishment and development of brand is indispensable to the core technology breakthroughs and independent innovation of key technologies. The first V-8 cylinder direct injection supercharging (“V8TD” for short) engine independently designed by China FAW has passed trials in 2021, reaching the leading level of similar models in the world. The domestic snowmobile jointly developed by China FAW and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation has broken the long-standing monopoly of foreign brands in Chinese snowmobiles.

“China FAW has achieved breakthroughs of 328 key core technologies in key technology fields such as new energy and intelligent network connection, won 48 national, provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, led the formulation and revision of 59 national industry standards and applied for 11192 patents in the past three years, and ranked first in the industry in terms of the number of patent authorization in the past two years.” Zhou Zhiping, Member of Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Deputy General Manager of FAW, said, “Driven by scientific and technological innovation, Hongqi brand has launched 8 models such as H5 and H9 in recent years, which has strongly supported Hongqi’s leapfrog development. The sales volume exceeded 300,000 in 2021, a 63-fold increase compared with 2017. The brand “FAW TRUCKS” and other fist products have achieved “the best sales of the global heavy truck for a consecutive fifth year”. BESTUNE brand launches new products, so as to promote product modeling, upgrade and update experience, significantly improve the overall management quality of the enterprise and continue to consolidate and expand the development trend that ‘the landscape here is beyond compare’.”
Striving to be the “leader” of Global Automobile Industry by Expanding Overseas Market
“At present, China FAW is focusing on the core market of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative, taking brand, trade, investment and industrial chain as the order, accelerating layout and strengthening management, and boosting overseas business to gradually form a new growth pole of China FAW,” China FAW overseas business relevant person said.
It is reported that the China FAW overseas has covered 78 countries and regions in Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and other regions. To this day, the export of China FAW vehicles includes the whole series of Hongqi high-end passenger vehicles, BESTUNE passenger vehicles, FAW TRUCKS commercial vehicles and so forth. The number of overseas first-level agents exceeds 90, and overseas subsidiaries have been established in South Africa, Tanzania and other countries to build their own marketing channels, establishing four overseas productivity routes layout based on the implementation path of “the Belt and Road”.
FAW TRUCKS entered the Mexican market and established KD production plant through deep cooperation with local distributor ELAM in 2018. It only took 3 years to realize terminal sales in 2019 to over 1,000 orders in 2021.

Hongqi brand and its whole series of products were launched in Saudi Arabia in April 2021, and Hongqi exported 234 vehicles including H9 and HS5 in June, when China FAW Hongqi flagship store opened in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Hongqi H9 won the “Innovative Luxury Car Award” of 2021 the 9th Saudi National Automobile Award; Hongqi E-HS9 was exported to Europe and launched in Norway, a country with a high penetration rate of new energy in September.
FAW TRUCKS, relying on its three subsidiaries in South Africa, Tanzania and Eastern Europe, actively explored the markets of countries along the “Belt and Road” in Europe and serve the construction of countries along the “Belt and Road” in 2021.
Since 2022, China FAW Import and Export Co., Ltd. has signed 1,138 intended orders in the Mongolia region, an increase of 325% year on year, achieving a breakthrough of over 1000 units in the border trade of heavy trucks in the single market for the first time. Orders for delivery reached 559 units, up 224% year on year.
On April 29, 2022 (South Africa time), a FAW TRUCKS JH6 heavy truck rolled out of the assembly line, marking the 9,000th vehicle produced by the company in South Africa, and becoming another milestone in the development of China FAW’s overseas business. In the 2021 South African Dealers Association (NADA), China FAW won the “2021 Dealer Satisfaction Index Silver Award”, becoming a Chinese brand on a par with well-known European and Japanese brands locally.
Five years can’t describe all the development of China FAW in detail, which is not only the development road for China FAW to expand the automobile industry, but also the revitalization road to enhance the international influence of Chinese automobile brands.
